Why buy this wipes warmer?

The best feature of the Munchkin Warm Glow wipes warmer is right in the name — the dim changing light built into the front of the wipes container. Although some parents think the light is too dim to be practical, others think the low level of light is just about perfect for a soggy diaper at 2 a.m.

To take advantage of the “warm glow” (which is actually sort of an alien green), I recommend that you place the wipes warmer on a shelf or dresser at the same height level as the changing table. If you keep your wipes warmer on a shelf below the changing pad, you’ll block most of the light with your body.

The changing light turns on automatically when you open the wipes warmer’s lid. It stays on for 10 minutes, unless you press the on/off button first.

How does it work?

The Munchkin Warm Glow warms wipes from the top down. This means that the wipes you need now are warm, and you won’t have to wait 3 hours for warm wipes (which is one disadvantage of the Prince Lionheart Ultimate model).

In addition to providing speedy warmth, the top-down heating system helps prevent browning. Since the wipes at the top are constantly being used, they never sit in the heat long enough to dry out and brown. (Speaking of which, don’t forget to unplug your wipes warmer if you go on vacation, or the whole pack of wipes will be dried out and brown when you get back.)

What about the wipes?

The Munchkin Warm Glow wipes warmer works with all types of diaper wipes. The small green upper lid dispenses pop-up disposable baby wipes. The large lower lid dispenses standard disposable wipes or even cloth wipes. Just remember that opening and closing the large lid frequently will cause your wipes to dry out faster, so get the pop-up wipes if you can.

Munchkin likes to advertise the Warm Glow’s “viewing window,” which is the large green panel on the front of the machine. This large, green, translucent panel on the front of the warmer is supposed to help you keep track of how many wipes are inside. In reality, the window is always covered in condensation inside, and you can never see the wipes as clearly as in the picture.

Care and maintenance

The most important thing to know about your Munchkin Warm Glow wipes warmer is that you should add a half cup of water every time you add new wipes — or any time you notice that the wipes are getting less moist. The slide locks on the lid help keep much of the moisture inside (and keep curious toddler hands out), but your wipes will eventually dry out as they bake in the heat.
